1970s - 1980s

 
The artwork I had been doing in graduate school did not sell. In fact, I felt that the large, heavily-textured canvases were a dead end artistically.

One thing that did sell very well was portraits. I supported myself running my shop and taking commissions for portraits done in pastels or oils. This enabled me to continue to refine my techniques.
